Version 1.2 · Effective 28 September 2026
What gets refunded depends on how far the Project has got when it is cancelled. Capitalised words have the meanings in the EazyConstruct Platform Terms of Use.
1. How to cancel
1.1 Either the Client or the Contractor can cancel through Cancel Project in the App, giving a reason.
1.2 Before the cancellation is confirmed, the App shows both parties the stage the Project has reached and the amounts that will be paid out and refunded under this policy.
1.3 If the other party disagrees with the amounts, they may raise a dispute within 3 Business Days. EazyConstruct holds the money until the dispute is resolved under the Platform Terms.
1.4 Within 7 days after signing a Quote, the Client also has the cooling-off right in clause 14 of the Project Agreement. Where it applies, it gives the Client a full refund.
1.5 If a Project is cancelled as part of an accepted dispute settlement or recommendation, the amounts agreed there apply instead of the table in clause 2.
2. Refunds by stage
"Work has started" means the Contractor has recorded the Site Handover Report in the App.
| Stage when cancelled | If the Client cancels | If the Contractor cancels |
|---|---|---|
| Before a Quote is signed | No cost to either party | No cost to either party |
| Quote signed, nothing paid yet | No cost | No cost. The cancellation is recorded on the Contractor's account |
| Deposit paid, work not started | The Deposit is refunded in full, less any part paid to a supplier for materials. The Client keeps those materials | The Deposit is refunded in full, less any part paid to a supplier for materials, which belong to the Client. If the Contractor is holding those materials, they must hand them over to the Client or repay their value |
| Work in progress | The Contractor is paid for the completed stages and for materials bought, and the balance is refunded | The Client pays only for the completed stages and materials delivered to site, and the balance is refunded. EazyConstruct may help the Client find a replacement Contractor, and may suspend the Contractor's account |
| After practical completion | A completed Project cannot be cancelled. Defects are dealt with under the guarantee in the Project Agreement | Same |
3. Valuing completed work
3.1 When a Project is cancelled while work is in progress, the parties first try to agree in the App on the value of the stages completed, using the Signed Quote, the Work Plan and the stage photos.
3.2 If they cannot agree within 5 Business Days, either party may raise a dispute. EazyConstruct then recommends a value based on the Project record, under the dispute process in the Platform Terms.
3.3 Only work shown in the stage photos and materials shown by receipts, or delivered to site, are counted.
4. Company-managed materials
| When the Project is cancelled | Materials | Oversight Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Before EazyConstruct orders the materials | Refunded in full | Refunded in full |
| After ordering, before delivery | Refunded, less any cancellation or return charge the supplier makes | Not refunded |
| After delivery is confirmed | Not refunded. The materials belong to the Client | Not refunded |
4.1 This applies whoever cancels. If the Contractor cancels after the materials were delivered, the materials stay on site for the Client's next Contractor.
4.2 Faulty, wrong or short materials are always replaced or refunded under the Platform Terms, whenever they are found.
5. Fees
5.1 Platform Fee. The Platform Fee is only deducted from the Final Payment. A Project cancelled before practical completion is never charged it.
5.2 Oversight Fee. The table in clause 4 applies.
5.3 EazyConstruct does not charge any separate cancellation fee.
6. Change Orders
6.1 If a Change Order was approved and paid, but its items have not been bought, the amount is refunded.
6.2 If its items have been bought or delivered, they are treated like the other materials on the Project: the Client keeps them, and they are not refunded.
6.3 On a Company-managed Project, materials bought through a Change Order follow the table in clause 4.
7. When refunds are paid
7.1 A refund is confirmed once 3 Business Days pass with no dispute raised, or once a dispute is resolved.
7.2 EazyConstruct pays confirmed refunds by EFT within 10 Business Days after confirmation, to a South African bank account in the Client's name that the Client gives in the App with proof that it is theirs.
7.3 If money due to the Client has already been paid out to the Contractor, the Contractor must repay it to EazyConstruct within 5 Business Days, and EazyConstruct then refunds the Client. If the Contractor does not repay it, EazyConstruct may deduct it from the Contractor's future payouts, suspend the Contractor's account, and support the Client in recovering it.
8. Repeated cancellations
8.1 A Contractor who cancels 2 Projects with Signed Quotes within 6 months without a valid reason may be suspended.
8.2 A Client who repeatedly cancels Projects after work has started may be restricted from posting Jobs.
8.3 Valid reasons include illness, a family emergency, an unsafe site, and a serious breach by the other party.
9. Your statutory rights
9.1 Nothing in this policy limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act, the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, or any other law.
9.2 If you are unhappy with how a cancellation was handled, contact support@eazyconstruct.com. You may also approach the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud.
